Bad
Easily the most disappointing movie I’ve seen of all time. The characters are so stupid, it is the same exact movie as the original, and the ending is executed super poorly. On the positive side though; there are a lot of cool camera shots.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 is a film that, while well-done in certain technical aspects, has not impressed me in terms of innovation. The plot focuses on the random attack on a couple in an isolated cabin, a concept we have seen before. I feel that, although the story has the possibility of generating an atmosphere full of suspense and fear, it falls into the predictable, without providing twists or depth that distinguish it in the genre.
One of the strongest points of the film is the soundtrack, or rather, its use of silence and background sounds. This is where it really manages to build an atmosphere of tension, allowing silence to become another character, generating discomfort in the viewer without needing to saturate it with music.
The photography and setting seem outstanding to me; the surroundings of the town, the gloomy forest and the cabin encapsulate that feeling of desolation. This visual section manages to immerse you in the scene, making you feel the isolation of the characters. Also, some shots are very successful, especially those that take advantage of mirrors or unusual angles to reflect the constant threat.
As for the performances, Madelaine Petsch carries the film with a solid performance, conveying the terror in close-ups without losing the pulse of her character. Her chemistry with Froy Gutierrez is adequate, but I feel that his character is more flat and somewhat stereotypical as the couple's protector, without many emotional nuances that give him greater depth.
However, the film falls short in terms of character development and the logic of their decisions. As is often the case in many horror films, they become victims of their own bad decisions, which takes away from the realism of the narrative. It is frustrating to see how in life-or-death situations the characters do not react in a more logical or pragmatic way, which could have added a layer of realism that is missing.
Ultimately, while The Strangers: Chapter 1 has decent technical work in photography, setting, and a good lead performance, it doesn't bring anything new to the home invasion subgenre. The initial suspense and atmosphere work, but the ending and the lack of depth of its characters make it a forgettable and uninnovative experience.
