Synopsis
A French family moves to a new neighborhood with during the summer holidays. The story follows a 10-year-old gender non-conforming child, Laure, who experiments with their gender presentation, adopting the name Mikäel.

Céline Sciamma's Tomboy is a film that invites viewers to explore a single topic, yet only you will truly know what that topic is. How is that even possible? One film, with one story and one main character, but each person sees and analyzes it differently.
What makes Tomboy so powerful is its deliberate ambiguity — Sciamma leaves it open to interpretation whether the main character is this, that, or perhaps something entirely different. For me, the way the main character introduces themselves, makes choices, and wants to be seen points to a specific interpretation. But I won't reveal that here.
I highly recommend watching Tomboy as it beautifully portrays a child's journey toward self-discovery, leaving you with much to reflect on.
