    One of the most striking things about Suzume is the filmmaker's use of oversaturated colors and light to create a sense of otherworldly beauty in everyday places and happenings. The film also offers a poignant memorialization of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Despite the heavy subject matter, Suzume never loses its sense of humor, thanks in part to the presence of a three-legged chair that magically transforms into the man Suzume is trying to help.
