Synopsis

After an ambush, Afghan interpreter Ahmed goes to Herculean lengths to save US Army Sergeant John Kinley's life. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down.

    "The Covenant" offers a fresh take on the war genre, focusing on the consequences of the U.S.'s Afghanistan operations after withdrawing troops. The chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Salim is captivating as they risk their lives for each other on the battlefield. However, the film's attempts to tackle xenophobia and military-industrial complexes feel out of place.
