Bo Burnham, underrated and misunderstood artist, or at best misunderstood.
With his comedy, he clearly expressed all the problems that are difficult to solve in our society, proceeding according to the manual in all areas of life: the internet, sex, appearances... The notable addition of Covid, then, has encouraged the meaning of his "Inside". Inside, in my opinion, represents Bo's total inner disorder, a disorder in which the latter tries to find his place. It's not just his personal situation, it's a collective message, a desire to stay inside instead of emerging. Once out, all you want is to go back in. It is a dizzying reality. The comedy is decidedly reflective, capable of making one think. "Anybody want to joke when no one's laughing in the background [...] I promise to never go outside again". The "external" life seen as a great comedy show, during which people laugh at things that should not, in fact, make people laugh. Yet do we really think that comedy could save the world? Bo Burnham also manages to bring out the selfishness of the individual in actions that seem harmless, but which are instead done simply out of pure selfishness. Being told that you have done the right thing, considering yourself better because you fit into a much larger mechanism than a mere individual. A mechanism that, frankly, doesn't care if you joke or despair.
A great artist.

Ever since he made 'Eighth Grade," which, by the way, I liked a lot, the YouTube algorithm has been generous with Bo, recommending me tons of his stand-up comedy material. For the most part, his humor doesn't resonate with me. I often find it to be a bit naive, a bit silly. It's not punchy enough for me. In short, it's not my thing. So, I wouldn't have watched this special if it weren't for randomly listening to the 'All Eyes On Me.' That's the new guilty pleasure song for me right now. Unlike most of his stand-up, I found Bo's 'Inside' quite entertaining. But more than that, 'Inside' worked like a relaxing, almost meditative time for me. I don't know, maybe it's because of my current mood, but I somehow managed to avoid being bothered by all cheese Bo serves here because there's a lot of that. Bo goes dead sentimental here. But anyway, I was vibing with the songs and didn't mind it much. As a passive appreciator of Bo's work, I think 'Inside' is a nifty product and one that helps a lot in adding to Bo's exquisite body of work.
