• Many people recommended me this movie to me, I was a bit sceptical at first. Hyped movies and I don't get along together at all
• All my doubts were thrown away out of the window after the first 15 minutes. God, that twist was unexpected! (Didn't you see that coming? Hell no!)
• The Labyrinthine screenplay co-written by Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton is the biggest advantage, it kept me guessing till the end
• It also helps in maintaining the air of uncertainty, that uncertainty kept me glued to the screen
• By the time I felt comfortable, the film warps itself and throws twist after twist
• But the twists don't feel forced, they felt so organic and genuinely embedded with the overall plot
• I don't think I have words left for Anthony Hopkins' performance. His nuanced portrayal of a man suffering from Dementia is realistic, heartbreaking and brilliant(Take this crown, King!)
•Olivia Colman as Anne is brilliant. She perfectly portrays the vulnerability, the helplessness of a daughter who tries her level best to keep her father stable
• It's hard to believe that this is Florian Zeller's Debut film. He has done a fantastic job in delivering a no-nonsense, crisp and Taut movie
• I just want to read the script of the movie after this review and rewatch it again, so that I might get a grasp of certain things that I missed in my first viewing. I'm sure there are a plethora of things
• The best thing about the film is, though it is complex as a viewer I didn't feel at any point in time that the film was trying hard to be complex and therefore making a mess(Iam looking at you Tenet 👀 )
• The climax hit me like a brick, it was so emotional. The experience is more accentuated as the film takes place from the POV of Anthony played by Anthony Hopkins
• The first 10-15 minutes were a bit confusing, as it took a little bit of getting used to the proceedings
• The slow pacing might be a roadblock for some people, but I didn't get bored while watching the movie
• Overall, The Father is a terrific movie with a Taut screenplay headlined by stellar performances from Hopkins and Coleman
