Synopsis
Danila goes to his successful brother, Victor, in Petersburg to start a new life. Unknown to Danila, Victor is a contract killer, but is in hiding after asking for too much money to assassinate a Chechen mob boss. To avoid exposure, Victor convinces Danila to kill the boss instead.

A very stylish film. Each phrase of Bodrov's hero is just a quote. And of course Nautilus in the background complements the gloomy atmosphere of the 90s.

These 2 films caused a huge amount of controversy. Someone accused of inciting nat. conflicts, someone scolded because of how sullenly shown Russia of those years. I give this film 5 stars for 2 reasons: thanks to this film and Balabanov, I got acquainted with the absolutely wonderful world of Russian rock, which may seem to someone very strange, gloomy and black, but I was fine :) and secondly, to me it seems that this movie simply reflects that period of time, and in this film a lot of pain is conveyed for their country and people, who at that time were not in a very good position. The main character absorbs all the problems of society at that time, while remaining true to his principles. Brother 2 is more fun for me to watch, but of course I advise you to master both parts :)
