I didn't know the story, after seeing the movie and reading about the case it's hard to find words for this, sadness, desolation, agony and rejection are some of the things I felt, this is just a movie, the reality is much worse, more devastating and macabre, I will never understand why some people are so irresponsible with their children, instead of taking care of them they leave them with people who end up being their executioners in many cases, the parents were as guilty as those abominable people if they can be considered people, just knowing the story is enough for me to imagine all the suffering that poor girl had to go through, it's hard to watch this movie and not feel a tightness in the chest, fortunately this movie treats the story with much more respect than a certain movie that it only focuses on the morbid part of the story and loses its way because it changes many things that it shouldn't change, the movie is disgusting and I don't recommend it (the girl next door) does not give depth to the character of Gertrude Baniszewski and on top of that she has the nerve to change the real facts and invent things that were not in the story, so if you are hesitating between that movie and this one I can only tell you that the correct path is this Finally, I highlight the performances of Catherine Keener and Elliot Page, both get into the skin of their characters and it feels genuine.
