This film is strange.
Even if the first 10 minutes make it seem that way:
THIS IS NOT A ZOMBIE FILM.
Annihilation is special.
I find it very difficult to put this story into words without losing a large part of the emotions you experience while watching it.
On Netflix, the film is described as "Unconventional, Psycho and Terrifying".
Even if the descriptions seem very appropriate at first glance, you can see so much more after looking closer.
From here on there are spoilers but please read it after the film:
The only constant in the world of shimmer is change.
The change away from everything we know and what defines us as human beings.
A world without human influence and a development towards something more natural and simple, even though it contradicts all the laws of nature.
The way in which the participants of the expedition slowly lose their humanity fascinates me.
Even though it's horrible, it also feels like a beautiful and simpler world.
A world where your existence is constantly changing and evolving, with no motivations or needs, just bright light and a feeling of complete acceptance.
A life in an unreal, real fantasy.
I found it very difficult to rate the film.
How the viewer feels about this film is very much subjective.

Even though it's one of my top 10 films of all time, I give "Annihilation":
7.5/10 stars,
because it's a film that not many people will like.

In-depth, mysterious plot line that is slowly revealed and never completely resolved. Balances thrills with complexity and originality of story in an admirable way. I’d have to watch again to really grasp the entirety of it as the ending is open to interpretation.

Liked the overall concept and the Stalker/Solaris-ish feel of the film, but the execution could have been better imo. Deserves praise for its experimentation and some of the fascinating visuals.
