X-Men: Apocalypse has its moments, but it’s definitely a mixed experience. There are some really cool scenes, especially when the young X-Men start to show off their powers. The cast is solid as always, with McAvoy and Fassbender continuing to crush it as Professor X and Magneto, and Quicksilver totally stealing the show whenever he’s on screen. The action is big and flashy, exactly what you’d expect from an X-Men movie, and there’s a nice bit of nostalgia seeing the younger versions of these iconic characters. But, to be honest, the movie has its weak spots too. Apocalypse, the big bad villain, just doesn’t live up to the hype. For such a powerful character, he feels kind of flat and not as scary as you’d hope. Plus, the story tries to juggle too many things at once, which makes it feel a bit messy and unfocused. In the end, X-Men: Apocalypse is fun enough if you’re into the series, but it’s not the best the X-Men franchise has to offer.
