It's a flawed film, largely overwritten, with characters pointing out things we've long worked out. Still, the self-referentiality of Eastwood's performance ensures that Gran Torino is not only absorbing, but moving.

Clint Eastwood hardly delivers a questionable role. And here, it's no different. As a prejudiced war veteran, you will learn that the people who were once your enemy must be protected.
