Profondo Rosso è uno dei miei film preferiti in assoluto.
L’ho visto così tante volte, eppure ogni volta funziona come la prima.
La colonna sonora è qualcosa di iconico: crea una suspense costante, inquietante, che ti entra sotto pelle e non ti molla più.
Dario Argento qui è al massimo della sua potenza: regia, montaggio, uso del colore, dello spazio e dello sguardo. Tutto è studiato per confondere, suggestionare, manipolare lo spettatore.
Ma il vero colpo di genio arriva alla fine, quando capisci che il killer lo avevi già visto. Era lì, fin dall’inizio, sotto i tuoi occhi… e tu non te ne sei accorto.

Quando Argento ti mostra quel dettaglio e tutto si ricompone, è un boom pazzesco: realizzi che il film ti ha giocato in faccia con una lucidità impressionante.
È un film che punta, sull’inconscio, sulla memoria visiva. Ed è proprio per questo che resta così potente, anche dopo mille visioni.

Deep Red is one of my all-time favorite films.
I've seen it so many times, yet every time it works as well as the first.
The soundtrack is iconic: it creates a constant, disturbing suspense that gets under your skin and never lets go.
Dario Argento is at his most powerful here: direction, editing, use of color, space, and gaze. Everything is designed to confuse, influence, and manipulate the viewer.
But the real stroke of genius comes at the end, when you realize you've seen the killer before. He was there, right before your eyes from the beginning... and you didn't even notice.

When Argento shows you that detail and everything falls into place, it's a shock: you realize the film has played a trick on you with impressive clarity.
It's a film that focuses on the unconscious, on visual memory. And that's precisely why it remains so powerful, even after a thousand viewings.
