Synopsis

In the poverty-stricken favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, two young men choose different paths. Rocket is a budding photographer who documents the increasing drug-related violence of his neighborhood, while José “Zé” Pequeno is an ambitious drug dealer diving into a dangerous life of crime.

    City of God is not an easy watch. It is extremely violent, shocking and intense. But in the meantime, it manages to be beautiful and even funny at times. Cinematography and music are brilliant! The caption stating that this is based on real events gave me goosebumps...When life seems hard, just watch City of God...

    Beautifully directed. Loved the documentary style of it. As it's based on a real story, it's a raw display of the vicious cicle of violence and it's affect on children.

    In short, we can say that it is a pleasant gang war movie to watch, which tells how the gang wars in the settlements called the back neighborhood are, and its storytelling and cinematography are also very good...

    Cidade de Deus is difficult to watch, as it presents the harsh reality of one of the most violent communities in Rio de Janeiro. With an impeccable performance by the character of Dadinho Zé Pequeno, Cidade de Deus is a work of art that every Brazilian citizen should watch. But not everyone will make it.
